TAROT Q & A for Readers

Old English Tarot Deck by U.S. Games

Q What do I tell the querent (client) when my mind goes blank?

A Often our mind goes into overload when we are faced with a question or a card that does not seem to offer up immediate answers. Remember, every spread is perfect. You may begin by saying that the card is confusing you and that you would like to ask some questions relating to the card. Often the reading takes you into other issues that are equally or more important.

Q How do I restate a question that seems virtually impossible to answer?

A Predicting the future is harmful since a change of mind changes the future. Readings that involve future predictions may influence the querents’ decisions. Perhaps it would be of greater assistance to look into the dynamics of the situation. What seems to be occurring in the present which may affect the future? Example, “When am I going to meet my husband?”
Restated: “What has to occur before I meet my intended?”

Q I end up using the Celtic Cross spread for all of my readings. How can I do better readings without so many cards?

A The trend is to use fewer cards. One question per small spread often determines the outcome and all of the dynamics of the situation. The Heart of the Tarot by Sandra Thomson and Robert Mueller provides an insightful and easy way to read with just two cards. The Complete Book of Tarot Spreads by Evelin Burger has 122 layouts of varying number of cards.

Q I have been reading the tarot for over ten years. I cringe when I remember how I used to read on such a superficial level. Are those earlier readings OK?

A. Your first readings were just as significant as the ones you do today and years from now. As you progress you add layers of meaning and understanding but the overall outcome remains similar.

Q Many of my querents sometimes want answers that only a professional could answer. How do I manage this?

A. Often readings bring up issues that fall into the categories of health, finance, mental and legal problems and more. Your personal ethics should indicate that you recommend such professionals to your querent. Keep a list of local professionals.

Q How do you determine yes/no answers?

A. I use three cards. The upright cards are yes, reversals, no. These three cards also indicate underlying issues. I treat reversals not as opposite but as a delay or something that’s in the unconscious mind of the querent. There are at least a dozen ways to read reversals but this one works for me.
