Eight of Cups
The image of the person walking away from a stack of eight cups implies turning away from past disappointments. The colors are dark, the mountains are bleak and the posture of the man is slightly bent. Preoccupation with emotional situations is energy draining and is nature's way of guiding us in a new direction. The phases of the moon depict the passing of time and a woman's introspective nature.
Cups represent our emotional nature which comes into play on all levels and aspects of our life. Time and an inner awareness eventually leads us in the right direction.
The number eight represents the emotional cycle of endings. This realization prompts us to tie up loose ends and prepare for a new phase. Take care that you avoid reacting or creating bad relationships both in business and personally.
Illness or injury are signs that you are resisting your inner truth and purpose(s). Realize that our spiritual nature constantly changes. Our western life style prefers a life style that makes change financially difficult. We are also prone to stay with the familiar as change can be fraught with fear, unrest and risk. It can also feel like failure.
Those who feel that change is immanent and act upon it are more apt to experience more variety and learning experiences in this life time. Often, in men, an inner desire is more important than what cups, or the emotional life, offers. In our the western culture eight represents lofty ambition or financial gain.

Using Your Subconscious Mind
Little is actually known of the subconscious mind. It is the repository of socially acceptable traits, desires and all of the information we have been taught or felt. There is also a "collective unconscious" or cultural trait that forms our behavior, likes and dislikes.
This higher non-local aspect of the mind can be accessed, to some degree, by those who we call "sensitive." Can the average person access this part of the mind as well? Knowing what the subconscious or unconscious mind is and how it differs from the ego or conscious mind is the first foray into understanding how these minds work and their purposes. Some of the ways to access or interpret the subconscious are meditation, dream analysis, random association, and verbal slips. This implies that only a psychiatrist or spiritual counselor may be able to help. For some individuals this may be necessary but most may be able to access their subconscious if they knew more about it. Age creates the importance of expressing and feeling for others. If you have ever been with the aged you will notice those behaviors. As we age, especially when we reach beyond retirement we begin to feel the need to teach, comfort and downsize.
Sometimes the subconscious mind creates changes, boredom or even injury if we do not follow our feelings. Spirit is always changing and growing so if we do not heed these opportunities we may have to suffer. Spirit is intertwined with the subconscious and is known by its emotional content. Living the spiritual life creates well being if the feelings are genuine.
Some teachings believe that the higher subconscious even remembers past lives and other higher levels of being. We can access and communicate with the higher or subconscious but most people allow the conscious mind to dictate their daily activities. The lower mind consisting of the ego or conscious mind is thought of as a newer addition to the human mind. It is limited to guidance, acquiring and maintaining a life style. We are taught that achieving happiness is the ability to develop a clever mind, acquire socially acceptable things such as a profession, family and home. The problem is that even the most successful person is limited in its ability to create opportunities and see possibilities because they function on a superficial ego or conscious level. Achieving success in life is not necessary a feel-good experience if it is not connected or run from the subconscious.
Some people are able to embrace the process of transformation easily. However, others are stuck in the false self or preoccupation with their emotional well being which may be fraught with negative feelings or images. They seem unable to listen to their deeper self. Often these emotional cripples develop depression, illness and/or addictive behaviors. Many businesses such as insurance companies, services or the medical community, prey on the possibility of loss or limitation. Even some religious zealots warn of the kind of afterlife for those who do not adhere to socially acceptable norms. The warnings expand as our society or economy progresses and the technology grows. Family members or friends who live in the conscious mind may also affect a person who strives to live in the subconscious or the moment. Often it involves those to drop away. Positive individuals often seek out others of like mind.
Our troubled querents may be living in the conscious mind and do not realize that they are able to connect with their subconscious either by thought, word or both. As readers we can teach our querents to speak directly to the subconscious and to ignore or dampen the warnings from the conscious or ego mind. We can also teach that behind the conscious mind is the essence of being which is ageless, emotionally okay and exists outside of the corporal body.
I have my querents write affirmations which should be simply written and should be very positive and not contain anything untoward (no negative statements). The subconscious does not recognize negative words or thoughts. Affirmations or desires are impressed upon the higher mind which eventually becomes reality if the subconscious is in agreement.
